Markovich

When Inez Markovich, now 36, came to the United States from Volgograd, Russia, at age 18, she spoke no English and had no professional contacts in this country. Four years later, she graduated summa cum laude from Arcadia University (B.A. 1996), then cum laude from the Temple University School of Law, and joined Duane Morris, LLP. Today, she lives with her family in Huntingdon Valley, is a shareholder at the center city law firm of Deeb, Petrakis, Blum & Murphy, PC., a frequent writer and speaker on bankruptcy and financial restructuring, and a champion of the interests of the Russian immigrant community.

For her remarkable accomplishments, Markovich will be recognized on May 18 as one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, the region’s most accomplished young professionals. She also will receive another notable professional recognition in June.

A civic leader, Markovich is a founding organizer and board member of a bank being organized in Northeast Philadelphia that would be the first community bank in the United States created to serve the Russian-speaking community. She is also a founding organizer of the Russian-Speaking Professionals Network of Greater Philadelphia. A former concert pianist, she is a member of the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, offering pro bono legal services and presenting panels on legal issues facing non-profit arts organizations.

At Deeb Petrakis Blum & Murphy, Markovich leads the firm’s bankruptcy and reorganization practice. An accomplished attorney, she represents, among others, regional and national banks and leasing and financing companies. She specializes in business reorganization, debt restructuring, commercial finance transactions, creditors’ rights, and financial services regulation. Her innovative legal thinking has led to successful results in major Chapter 11 cases nationwide. She is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Markovich’s clients include prominent banks, financing companies, and corporations.

A regular contributor to professional journals, she is active in the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Eastern District of PA Bankruptcy Conference, and the Forum of Executive Women.
