These organizations work to feed the hungry and homeless in the Philadelphia area and beyond.

This year’s student  organizers, Christine Friis ’12 and Stephanie Clymer ’11, both discussed how much work goes into putting the dinner together. “We start planning at the end of September and contact restaurants to donate food and schools to donate bowls,” says Friis.

DSC_0561Clymer adds, “The day after Empty Bowl we reserved the Castle for next year’s event.”

Reserving space early is a good idea as the event has become really popular in both the Arcadia and local community. This year, instead of the usual two seatings for dinner, there were four. With more than 600 guests attending, adding more seatings allowed the event to run smoothly.

As far as what the organizers hope attendees walked away with, Friis says, “I want people to walk away knowing that they can and have made a difference… knowing that they came here with 600 other people, and that the effects of tonight are going to be as far reaching as Asia and Africa.” (Photos)
