The Office of Community Service is hosting the largest area Pack-A-Thon for Stop Hunger Now on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Dome. (Register.)
“As a packer, the more money raised (minimum of $10), the more they can pack at the event,” say Cindy Rubino, Community Service Officer. “Our goal for the event is to raise a minimum of $10,000 equal to 40,000 meals, so we are inviting the Arcadia community along with community members and organizations to join us in this effort. The Dome can hold over 800 people, so it is feasible to double our initial goal if we can engage 800 community participants.”
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world. At only 25 cents a meal, the organization has sent more than 34 million meals to more than 72 countries worldwide.
The food is used in crisis situations and in nutrition programs for schools and orphanages in developing countries around the world. Stop Hunger Now has perfected the assembly process that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $10, which will provide 100 meals.
“We can make a difference, and we can achieve our goal of making 80,000 meals with your help,” says Chelsea DiMarco, Arcadia student coordinator. For more information contact the Community Service Office at 215-572-4000 or communityservice@arcadia.edu.
