Men’s Tennis Team Edges Penn State Abington in Season-Opener, 5-4

The Arcadia University men’s tennis team opened the 2013-14 season with a 5-4 non-conference victory over visiting Penn State Abington Saturday at Weiss Courts.  Freshman Charles Poklikuha secured the win for the Knights with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Sam Borai at sixth singles.

Arcadia opened the day by winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Alexander Colton and freshman Wesley Wei recorded an 8-0 win at first-doubles against Penn State’s James Howell and Mike Herman, while sophomore Darren Stochmal and Poklikuha were 8-1 winners at third-doubles against Kevin Wilkinson and sophomore Monte Dunson.

Stochmal earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Dunson, while senior Marc Ruggia recorded a 6-2, 6-4 fifth-singles win over Wilkinson.

The Knights will next travel to Lebanon Valley College Saturday, Sept. 21, for a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
