Andrea Williams, BA, is the founder and Executive Director of the Children’s Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. (CSCF). She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the mother of four children, one of whom has sickle cell disease. She is determined to increase awareness of sickle cell disease (SCD)to make an impact for those affected and the community. The mission of CSCF is to provide quality programs for children with SCD and their families, focusing the areas of social, educational, and economic support. The commitment to SCD and sickle cell trait (SCT) outreach and research are natural extensions of this mission. Some of these programs include Education Support, monthly Family Support, and weekly Learn-to-Swim and Outreach programs. The need for community education regarding SCD and SCT has led to the partnerships with public schools, professional and community organizations, and churches, where CSCF provides information and resources for screening and education.
